What to expect during a Gong and Drum Puja
• Overnight Immersion:
The ceremony typically begins in the evening and concludes in the early morning,
allowing participants to sleep through most of the night.
Continuous Drum or Gong Sound:
Participants lie down and are surrounded by the continuous, low-frequency
vibrations of the gongs and drums.
Deep Sleep:
The long duration and specific frequencies are intended to induce deep sleep,
which is considered to be a prime state for healing and cellular rejuvenation.
Emotional & Physical Release:
The powerful vibrations are said to unblock physical, mental, and emotional
issues, leading to a cleansing and freeing experience.

Why The Elements? Three reasons really.
First, as humans our connection with the elements used to be
essential to our survival: fire for heat, water as a highway,
source of food and cleanliness, knowledge of our patch of earth
and respect for her was critical to our survival, and air, from our
first to our last breath, we cannot survive in any other element.
In the developed world most humans have more or less lost this
relationship with, I believe, disastrous consequences. Water?
Comes from taps, goes down a drain. There’s no space in
there to experience rain, full or empty river beds, dry or lush
farmland.
Second: from this close relationship (I speculate) we humans
saw the elements as live partners in our lives. Angry fire, angry
rivers, balmy, loving air, loving or hateful earth depending on
abundance or scarcity. What would our lives be like if we
reconnected with these powerful forces? Richer? Humbler? I
invite you to consider this question.
And lastly, it is my belief that our increasing
separation from the elements is a huge engine of our
destruction of our precious and beautiful planet. And those few
of us who are willing to work at strengthening this connection
could be useful if not critical if our collective destruction is to be
moderated and maybe stopped.
So acknowledging our relationship with the elements, forging a
connection with them, and finding a daily practise to keep this
alive may all be key parts to a richer life for us as well as our
planet.
There is no one answer here, so each day will be structured to
allow and encourage us to explore our experiences and beliefs
around each element, and in the course of the day settle into
some kind of dialogue with the spirit of each.
How will the days be structured?
We will have a ritual beginning, creating and honouring an altar
related to the element of the day, cleansing one another,
reading aloud words to invite and honour that element.
In pairs we will share memories/experiences/stories whether
from our own lives or from movies/others stories/art it doesn’t
matter. These have fed your beliefs about and relationship with
this element.
Then we’ll note in writing the emotions this conversation has
brought up for us, for example Fire for me immediately brings
memories of comfort, fear, frustration, ignorance, anger …..
Then we will journey asking to meet our personal element of
Fire who can act as Guide for the days work.
We will spend the remainder of the day in guided practises of
communication with and deepening of our relationship with this
Guide, asking questions and receiving answers.
The day will end with a fire, and drumming, and an opportunity
to give back to the fire, or receive from the fire whatever your
particular experience requires as an outcome.
Why work with these two together? Shamans have always
consulted with their and their clients ancestors looking for
support and wisdom which comes from a perspective which we
cannot grasp. And our modern lens of archetype is such a
useful way to capture how these ancient patterns can be
playing out in the here and now.
Working with the elements of fire, water, earth and air we will
connect through our familial ancestors back to our ancient
lineages.
Creating a space for a fire in a specific landscape which will be
revealed to us, we will invite two, maybe three, ancestors to sit
round the fire, and talk with us. We will have a conversation: our
aim is to learn from them, to hear what wisdom can be passed
to us, by one of us who has the benefit of uncountable
generations of lived experience.
We will then focus on identifying at least one, maybe more,
archetype(s) which we wish to release in this lifetime, and also
one or more which we wish to enhance the presence of or to
call in as a new one.
Sometimes we meet ancestors whose archetype has been
determined by circumstance, for example living in the archetype
of scarcity can be a direct consequence of starvation. However
maybe we too operate a scarcity lens on material, temporal or
emotional aspects of life, even though we live in a time of plenty
as regards food.
I will provide a comprehensive list of archetype possibilities, and
of course am on hand to discuss this during and after the day.
We will share a the process of this in group and about individual
context in pairs, and we will have private time, whether in the
yurt or outside if you choose, to make sense of this experience
in the context of our current life. And this is just the start of this
kind of deep communication and exploration, if you wish to take
it further.
We will create a ritual for ourselves to give away what we wish
to lose, and call in who we wish to become.
The day will end with a brief soundbath to embed these
practises, and to set you on your way to your future.
Come for a full day of exhilarating drumming. Your drum and our beautiful mother drum will speak to you as never before.

Join us at Thorncroft Farm on the edges of Leatherhead, where we look out on to the stunning landscapes of Box Hill and Norbury park. Nestled by our elderflower orchard is a lovely spacious new yurt, newly open for workshops.
10:00 - Ceremony to open the Circle, honouring the elements and the directions. Introductions: Martin and Sheila will say a bit about themselves and their interest in the days events, their training and their hopes for the day.
Everyone then has an opportunity to introduce themselves and also say what they want from the days events. We listen and we will try to incorporate when is being asked for, and maybe change the order we had planned to accommodate you.
Introduction to first learning, for example, a Shamanic introductory day would involve learning how to do a journey to meet an ally to help with future work.
Sharing this experience in the group if you want to and asking questions or checking out your experience.
13:00 - Break for lunch (predominantly homemade and locally sourced)
14:30 - We will regroup in the yurt where the afternoon’s activity will be explained so that everyone is clear, and we’ll embark on…for example we may invite everyone to bring a question. Then we can do an outdoor activity as part of seeking guidance on the question, for example last time we offered what’s called The Omen Walk, a lovely way of using the interface between the natural world and our perception to guide us.
We then would reconvene in the yurt and do a guided journey to meet our true self, and then participants would be invited to have a conversation with their true self as part of the process of seeking an answer to their question. We would encourage you to have as part of the conversation, something about what qualities to call on to help in this answer, and what qualities to lose.
We encourage you to write down the above information, and then to end the day we may have a fire ceremony and an opportunity to give up (burn) what is no longer serving us, and call in what we need going forwards.
Back in the yurt we will hold a short closing ceremony and close the circle.
16:30 - Depart Thorncroft Farm
*We follow a basic structure such as above, however we are flexible to the group's individual needs. If you are attending as a group, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
